Sign it Hear has been established since 2012 with the aim of providing opportunities for integration between Deaf and hearing communities.  

 

We currently provide British Sign Language (BSL) courses at level 1 and 2, introductory courses for children and young people (BSL 101) through schools, Basic sign language in the workplace, BSL Interpreted Tours, and Deaf Awareness Courses.

In August 2017, Sign it Hear’s work with intu (Metro Centre and Newcastle Eldon Square) was nominated for a Community Spirit Award in the Signature Annual Awards, (http://www.signatureannualawards.org.uk/)

Sign it Hear also hosts regular monthly signing café events in Caffe Nero.  The first of these started in South Shields in January 2015 and was followed closely by Newcastle and in August 2017 we started our first Signing Café in the Metro Centre, Gateshead.  The Signing Café events offer an informal café experience for Deaf and hearing people where signing is not seen as out of place or unusual
